Gourd carving is a tradition dating back to over a thousand years, a process that requires special skills and is time consuming. This Art Work depicts the traditional country lifestyle of Peruvian people, in this case the livestock, with the raising of llamas, considered sacred animal by the Incas; The agriculture, the country life. It also has iconic images such as the "Inca Trilogy" with three (3) animals that were considered sacred by the Inca Culture: the cougar, the condor and the snake. The cougar was a symbol of wisdom & strength. The Condor was considered a messenger of the gods, was an intercessor and guided the Hanan Pacha (world above). The snake symbolizes the world below or the world of the dead, the Ukhu Pacha. It represents when people leave the earthly world to join the world of spirits. (Dead's world). Also has images of some Inca's deities: The god Sun (Inti) and the god Moon (Mama Quilla) and the Stars that are important part of their lives.
