Beautiful and one of a kind trio of doves created entirely by hand in the town of Chulucanas localized in the Northern Peru. The creation of these beautiful pieces require the use of techniques that come from Pre-Inca times, where a colored or white slip is applied to the exterior, then the piece is fired. Pieces are dipped in liquid clay, which is rubbed away only in the areas the artisan wishes to be blackened. The piece is then smoked multiple times with mango leaves to achieve the rich brown or black color, and fired a second time. The now hardened liquid clay is then carefully removed to reveal the white or colored slip below. The "Chulucanas" ceramic elaboration technique it's one of the ceramic techniques which it is worth to do research about.

  • Handmade in the Town of "Chulucanas" in Northern Peru using ancient techniques that comes back from Pre-Inca times. The techniques have been rescued from the pre-Columbian Vicus and Tallan cultures. Beautiful colors and design elaborated using the Negative or Slipper Technique.
  • The dark brown or black color is achieved in a resist process by smoking the pieces with mango leaves. Liquid clay is used to cover with minerals and herbs those areas or designs that they want to keep intact in color. Those that they want to darken, are exposed. The piece decorated this way enters the smoking oven, where mango leaves have been prepared.
